OPUS for Ewa Szumowska!

We are happy to announce that Ewa Szumowska from our Centre recently received the research grant from National Science Centre! Full name of the project is “Self-verification in the context of epistemic motivation”.

Previous studies showed that people tend to prefer self-verifying feedback over non-veryfiying one. New project proposes to look at self-verifying behaviors as means to an end, which is possessing and sustaining certain knowledge, rather than a goal in itself. This assumes that when there is another, more instrumental means to this end (e.g., another source of reliable knowledge), self-verification effects would not appear. Research by Ewa can help understand how self-knowledge is constructed and when people might not be motivated to confirm their self-views, especially negative ones. Good job!
