What motivates sacrifice for a political cause? Katarzyna Jasko, Marta Szastok, Joanna Grzymala-Moszczynska, Marta Maj, and Arie Kruglanski investigated this problem in six studies, which included diverse groups of political activists such as feminist activists engaged in Czarny Protest, environmental activists defending Puszcza Bialowieska, and supporters of the Committee for the Defense of Democracy. The results show that when activists engage in political actions on behalf of important social values, they gain a sense of personal significance, and as a result of these positive feelings, they are more willing to self-sacrifice for the cause in the future. The article has been recently published in the Journal of Social Issues. Congratulations!
