Narcissism and social functioning: maximizing own gains and conditions of including other people’s interests.

The objective of the project is to investigate narcissism as an agentic social strategy aimed at maximizing own gains while neglecting costs born by other people. Effectiveness of this strategy in various social contexts will be researched and specific conditions under which narcissists might intend to take other people’s interests into consideration will be tested experimentally. Another, though related, objective of the project is to determine specific empathic mechanisms (deficits) responsible for the relative indifference of narcissists to other people’s needs.
