Valentine’s Day is the perfect occasion to promote a new chapter on love, coauthored by our lab member, Ewa Szumowska!
In the present chapter, the authors present the basic tenets and core hypotheses of a novel theory of love based on the quest for significance (Kruglanski et al., 2022, 2024). Their theory holds that love is motivated by the need for significance and that significance is gleaned through romantic relationships with partners who possess socially valued qualities and who convey to the actor that they are respected and admired. The six hypotheses discussed in the present chapter are supported both by new empirical data and by existing findings from decades of psychological research. Finally, the authors discuss new research directions informed by the “love as the quest” model.
Highly recommended

PS A more extensive presentation of the theory will soon appear in Behavioral and Brain Sciences!
